Frequently Asked Questions

Please bring a  photo ID and proof of current address.  Children under the age of fifteen must be accompanied by an adult to receive a card in the Children’s Library.  By accepting a new library card, you are responsible for any materials checked out on the card.  Bring your library card each time you come to the library to check out materials.  You can also use it from home to view your account, renew materials, reserve materials, and access the Sunflower eLibrary, and Hoopla.

To Sign in, select Abilene Public Library, and enter your APL card number. (Be sure to add 27410000 in front of your 6 digit card number, unless you have recently been issued a new card)

Yes, the library has computers for public use.  

Patrons may print or photocopy for 25 cents a page, or 50 cents a page for full color copies.  Wireless printing is also available from your mobile device.

Yes, faxes cost $1 a page to send or receive.  Scanning to email is offered at no charge.

The library offers free wifi, available 24/7.  You may access inside the building during library hours, or outside on the library lawn or parking area anytime.

You may use the library’s online card catalog to search for materials.  To log into your library account enter your library card number  and use the last 4 digits of your phone number as a password.

New books may be checked out for two weeks, movies may be checked out for two weeks, and all other circulating material may be checked out for 3 weeks.  A receipt with all items checked out and due dates can be given at the time of checkout.

Library items (except movies) may be renewed by calling 785-263-3082 or the Children’s Library 785-263-1303. Items may also be renewed by logging into your library account.    

If you would like an item that is currently checked out, the circulation staff can put a reserve on that item.  The reserves are placed in the order they are received.  When you are searching the card catalog, once you locate the item you wish,  click Place Hold.  When the item is returned, the library will notify you. Popular items or bestsellers may have long lists.

Yes, lost or damaged items must be paid for.  Please contact the library if you know you have misplaced a book.  The library will provide you with the replacement amount.  If an item has been damaged, please bring it to the circulation desk.  The damage will be accessed and a replacement amount given if necessary.

State of Kansas Library has several different apps.

Click on ACCESS DIGITAL BOOKS .  There you will see several different apps for either Audiobooks or eBooks.  Each one is a little different and has instructions for use.  When you click on the instructions, you will learn if the app is compatible with your device.

The library has access to Heritage Quest through the State Library of Kansas.  You may access many databases from  the State library  website.
