Veda Rogers will be at the library on Thursday, April 30, starting at 2:00PM She will be talking about her book A Grand Day: The Forgotten Voice of a Farm Woman Through Dust, Depression, and War.
A Grand Day presents the diaries of Louisa “Lulu” Ehrichs Schwanbeck, who chronicled her life on a western Kansas farm during the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and World War II. As a farmer and a true Kansan, she faced these challenges head on with a powerful work ethic, strong determination, high spirits, and a strong community of support. Despite hard times and hard work, many of her entries ended with a simple note. “A grand day.”
This book features a rare firsthand account of women’s farm labor and leadership in the Depression-era, and shows an ordinary life that reveals extraordinary resilience and strength.
